Dr. Verena Mutschlechner prescribes medicinal plants from our and the Eastern medical tradition. Medicinal plants contain not just one active ingredient, but a variety of substances that not only have an effect on our body, but also on our energy and our mind. As Paracelsus said: “All meadows and meadows, mountains and hills, they are God’s pharmacy.” The doctor has been prescribing medicinal cannabis since 2015 for chronic pain that does not respond to the usual painkillers. The combination of cannabis with opiate therapy has proven to be effective. She has noticed a significant increase in the quality of life of cancer patients, as cannabis alleviates the nausea, loss of appetite and weight loss that do not respond adequately to the usual therapies. The Paracelsus quote “All things are poison, and nothing is without poison. It is the dose alone that makes a thing not a poison.” applies particularly to psychoactive hemp. For medicinal cannabis in particular, it is important to find the right individual dose and form of preparation. The combination of therapeutic cannabis with CBD oil reduces the risk of side effects from the psychoactive THC, the main active ingredient in medicinal hemp. Dr. Mutschlechner also practices Hildegard von Bingen medicine, which has passed on the rich treasures of our monastic medicine to our time. The canonized Hildegard recommends bloodletting for all people with an “overabundance of blood”; she recommends cupping to everyone.
